The Role Of A Fruit Antioxidant Supplement

Antioxidants are well known for doing a body good. They help in keeping free radicals at a minimum by destroying most free radicals. We also need free radicals in our bodies which is why not all free radicals are eliminated by antioxidants. We get antioxidants from foods and beverages that we consume in our daily lives. Some enterprising people have developed fruit antioxidant supplement products which they claim are as effective as the real thing.

There are also some fruit antioxidant supplement products that the manufacturers claim to have the same effect as consuming antioxidants through eating fruits, vegetables and beverages. These fruit antioxidant supplement products are said to contain a controlled dosage of antioxidants using several elements that are rich in them. The question now is how effective are fruit antioxidant supplement products compared to eating real fruits and vegetable rich in antioxidants.

Effect Of Fruit Antioxidant Supplement

Depending on what kind of fruit antioxidant supplement is ingested, the effects are varied. Some antioxidants are produced in our bodies. These include glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase. Since these are produced in our bodies, the ingestion of these in supplement forms is minimal. This is because the fruit antioxidant supplement may not be properly processed in out digestive tract and just disposed of much the same way as waste products.

The antioxidants that our body produces are distributed around our body in a different way compared to fruit antioxidant supplement, which come from the digestive tract. Many experts recommend that instead of supplementing the real thing (glutathione etc) we should supplement the vitamins and minerals that contribute to the production of the antioxidant enzymes that are produced in our bodies.

Eating fruits and vegetables rich in certain antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals that contribute to antioxidant enzyme production on our bodies is more recommended by doctors and medical practitioners. Fruit antioxidant supplement products may have positive effects but the cost of buying them compared to eating the right foods and drinking the right beverages are quite far. This is because the chosen fruits and vegetables have other benefits other than having sole antioxidants. The other vitamins and minerals that are present in fruits and vegetables help antioxidants do a proper job compared to specific antioxidants.

Doctors do no really negate the use of fruit antioxidant supplement products but they do recommend eating or drinking the real thing rather than supplement the vitamins and minerals.
